The QTS Skills Tests

The QTS Skills Tests are what prospective teachers have to pass in order to gain entry on to their respective teacher training programmes and eventually gain qualified teacher status. The skills tests are made up of the professional numeracy skills test and the literacy skills test. People often find both tests quite tricky, especially if they haven’t had adequate practice or access to the best resources. Nationally the pass rate for the numeracy skills test is lower with more people have to resit it more times.

People often ask us what the pass mark is for the QTS Skills Test. The pass mark for the numeracy skills test is around 18 but it is standardised which means if your test contains slightly more difficult questions than normal the pass mark will drop slightly or if the test is easier the pass mark will increase. An excellent gage to see if you are ready to sit your test is what scores you are achieving on the QTS Maths Tutor numeracy skills practice tests. It should be noted that our numeracy skills practice tests are updated on a regular basis to reflect the new question types that appear in the exam; the government tests which are free on the STA website are about 3 years old now and have not been updated during that time.

The Literacy skills test pass mark also varies from test to test depending on the difficulty. Although outdated the government tests are still good practise for the literacy skills test and the actual exam hasn’t changed as much as the numeracy skills test in terms of new question types. Whether you are preparing for your numeracy skills test or literacy skills test, think QTS Maths Tutor.
