How to become a teacher?

To teach in England and Wales you need to gain qualified teacher status. You will obtain this on a teacher training programme which could be school or university-based and takes approximately one year to complete but this can vary. In England a prerequisite for being accepted onto the ITT courses is that you pass your professional skills test. At QTS Maths Tutor we provide a comprehensive numeracy skills test resource to help you pass your skills test. Whether you are looking for numeracy skills practice tests or a QTS numeracy tutor, QTS Maths Tutor can help.
Once you have passed the numeracy skills test you will then start your teacher training course. After the course is complete, you will be awarded QTS and become a newly qualified teacher. Following this you will enter your induction year where as newly qualified teacher you will still receive additional support to help you settle into your new career.
Applications for most teacher training programmes in England and Wales are made directly through UCAS. Before you apply you should consider the following as these are often what will determine whether your application gets accepted or not:
- A minimum of 2 weeks work experience in a school, ideally helping the age group you would like to go on and teach.
- You will need a minimum of a 2:2 degree from a UK university.
- You will need to have achieved at least at least a grade C in Maths, English and Science for some teaching positions.
- To have declared any previous convictions and undergone an enhanced DBS check. You can then subscribe for yearly updates to the DBS service.
- You will need to pass the professional skills tests before the teacher training provider will allow you to start the course. The test that many find most difficult is the numeracy skills test which is why QTS Maths Tutor are here to help.
If you are looking for a numeracy skills tutor or simply just revision materials for the numeracy skills test, even if that is a numeracy skills test book, then QTS Maths Tutor can help. Contact us today for more information about our numeracy skills test practice service.
